It rained for almost 4 months straight—kinda depressing and
hindered us from doing much exploring.
Come the end of July, I had a summer vacation for a week. We had to handle a couple things with our
visas that had to be done outside the country…so we went to Guam. It was
absolutely beautiful. On the journey
there, we couldn’t land due to bad weather so we had to go to Saipan (an island
north of Guam) while the plane was refueled.
After waiting forever, we were given the ok to land in Guam. Off we went.
We arrived around 3:30 am and made our way to the hotel…a short taxi
ride which cost 17 bucks. The next day
we rented a car. It allowed us to go
where we wanted…when we wanted…and MUCH cheaper than using the taxi. Our first stop was K-Mart (which apparently
this one is the world’s largest and open 24/7).
We stocked up on stuff to bring back with us…even bought a huge bag of
dog food. It was much cheaper than
buying it in Korea. It was so pleasant
to be back to normal priced items.
They also had an outlet mall that featured a huge Ross. Discount clothes, shoes, etc…oh yes! We made several trips to Ross and left with
quite a bit of stuff. I even got a pair
of Nike’s for $18. We bought a large
suitcase and filled it up with stuff from Ross and K-mart—we weren’t going back
to Korea empty handed.
In addition to our shopping indulgence, we also indulged in
plenty of food. We didn’t eat as much as
we wanted because we just weren’t hungry—we weren’t used to meals that keep us
full. One restaurant that called out to
us was The Jamaican Grill. Neither one
of us had ever had Jamaican food but, and I must tell you, it was quite good
and extremely cheap. The amount of food
that came on our plates was more than we could handle. Piles of rice were accompanied by the heaping
mound of meat. He had ribs, chicken, and
fish. I had fish drenched in coconut
milk and onions…delicious.
Next place was The American Legion. They had a good sized home cooked breakfast
for $4. Next, McDonalds…yes McDonalds—a
normal one. We stuffed our faces with
the most heavenly breakfast…a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. Next, Hooters. I had never been to Hooters before. I walked in wondering what to expect. But it was quiet as very few people were
there. We ordered several items…cheese
sticks, wings, and best of all “lots of tots.”
Tater tots covered in nacho cheese, sour cream and bacon—how could you
possibly go wrong. I’d be in trouble if
I had a way of eating that in Korea…I’d eat it everyday—breakfast, lunch, and
dinner.
Next…Lonestar. We
didn’t actually eat here. We were going
to but he got sick due to too much sun so I ordered some cheese fires and off
we went back to the hotel. Next, a
Mexican restaurant. I can’t remember the
name of it. We had all you can eat
tacos. It wasn’t too bad and at $10 a
person, it was well worth it. Our last
night, we had Pizza Hut. The pizza
wasn’t the greatest but it satisfied my cravings. It was really expensive though. Our last breakfast was Denny’s…need I say
more!
Since it rained for several days, we spent a good
amount of time driving around sightseeing.
We drove up to a major tourist site called Two Lover’s Point.
Rumor has it, two lovers plunged to their death so they could be
together. It is a cliff overlooking the
sea with an extremely beautiful and amazing view.
